7 Best Portable Table Saws - Reviews
#1. DeWalt DWE7480 10-Inch Portable Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (4.5 / 5)
The DeWalt DWE7480 is a popular portable table saw that is used by many professionals on the go. It features a decent rip capacity of 24-1/2 inches making it one of the best portable table saws for shelving and trim work on long pieces of stock.
Behind the hood is a powerful 15-Amp miter saw that can deliver a speed of 4800 RPM to the 24-tooth carbide blades. Additionally, this table saw comes equipped with a 2-1/2 inches dust port for a cleaner cutting experience. You do not need to apply a lot of force when using this unit. As any other table saw, the blade faces the user and pulls the material in effortlessly.
Aligning the blade to the miter slots or adjusting the blades between 0 - 45 degrees for making angular cuts is also very easy with the angle adjustment crank. We like how DeWalt was able to make this model more stable than previous models by redesigning the metal roll cage. It absorbs vibrations and provides a very stable foundation for this portable table saw. As long as the surface is flat, you can get very accurate cutting with this model.
Lastly, one feature that demarks this product from others is the presence of telescopic fence rails that is powered by a rack and pinion system. This allows the user to guide, maneuver, and lock the fence in position for the highest accuracy possible. All in all, we like how this model from DeWalt easily competes with more expensive table saws at half the price.
- Compact and lightweight at 45 lbs.
- Metal roll cage absorbs vibrations and provides a lot of stability.
- Storage compartment for your tools.
- 2-1/2 inches dust port to connect to an external dust collection system.
- Easy to make adjustments like changing blade angle and maneuvering the fence.
- 4,800 RPM blade delivers a smooth and clean cut.
- Short in-feed table of 4.5 inches can make it hard to align the material to the blade.
Who should buy?
If you need a fairly lightweight portable table saw that is versatile, powerful and dependable, the DeWalt DWE7480 is the right tool for the job.
#2. DeWalt DW745 120V 10-Inch Portable Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (4.7 / 5)
The DW745 is a copycat of the DWE7480 above. But it is a little bit trimmed down in terms of specs and features. Of course, it also costs a little bit less.
It has a smaller 20 inches rip capacity that lowers its versatility a little bit but sports the same beefy 15-Amp motor but at a lowered speed of 3850 RPM. The lower speed makes this model better suited for working with raw lumber, hardwood, and other denser material.
We see the same features as the model reviewed above, including the riving knife and forward pawls. What this does is force the stock to move in a forward direction and drastically limit kickback. Additionally, the transparent blade guard provides further protection and ease of use to the user.
Overall, the DW745 is a clone of the DWE7480. They look the same with only a difference in speed and rip capacity.
- Transparent blade guard with anti-kickback mechanism.
- Powerful motor can cut through material without stalling.
- Presence of a dust port for a cleaner workshop.
- Easy adjustments to both blade angle and fence.
- Measures the same dimensions as its bigger brother. We would have preferred an even smaller form factor.
Who should buy?
The DeWalt DW745 competes neck to neck with its own line of product - the DeWalt DWE7480. It is a little less performing and versatile than the latter, but offered at a significantly lower price. If you don’t need the extra rip capacity and speed of the DWE7480, this model is one of the best portable table saw for the money.
#3. Bosch 4100-09 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (4.6 / 5)
The Bosch 4100-09 is one of the most liked units on the market right now. Many professional portable table saw reviews we found online go crazy about this model, and for a very good reason. This is a model that works right out of the box and does everything you expect from a portable table saw.
It comes with a stand and 2 rear wheels. This makes it easy and practical to carry this unit around. Additionally, despite being a fairly small and compact table saw, it can accommodate stock as large as 25 inches with great ease on its 29 x 21-1/2 inches tabletop.
Aligning the blade to the miter stock takes no more than a few seconds and versatile adjustments like the blade angle and fence guiding can be made with equal ease. Bosch designed this unit to be simple to use, and it shows. This is a model that even beginners will start using within minutes. Additionally, the Squarelock rip fence is very easy to adjust and lock in position providing superior ease of use.
On the downside, the speed of the blade is a little bit on the slow side - at 3,650 RPM. Therefore, this table saw is not the best unit for trim or shelving but it does have its use. It can comfortably be used as a heavy-duty table saw for cutting raw lumber or other tasks that does not require a smooth and polished cut.
But to win the day, the blades of the Bosch 4100-09 can be pivoted to an impressive -2 to 47 degrees. This offers a lot of versatility when doing angular cuts, and allows you to make more intricate shapes than other models in the portable table saw review.
- Built from aluminum. Lightweight, durable and long lasting.
- Fence is easy to adjust and can be locked in position securely.
- Fully-featured modular blade guard system that prevents kickback and provides more safety.
- Already comes with a stand. Can easily be moved around in the workshop thanks to 2 rear wheels.
- More versatile bevel angle range of -2 to 47 degrees.
- The price. It is a little bit pricier than others models here.
Who should buy?
It is not difficult to recommend the Bosch 4100-09. This model already comes with a stand with 2 wheels. This makes it the marathon champion of portable table saws right out of the box. If you need to bring your table saw to your material on a regular basis, you will love how practical and lifesaving this particular model from Bosch is.
#4. Bosch GTS1031 10-Inch Portable Jobsite Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (4.3 / 5)
Unlike the Bosch model reviewed above, the Bosch GTS1031 does not come with a stand out of the box. It also has a lower profile and smaller form factor. It is a fairly simple portable table saw that does not have the bells and whistles of other models in this review.
The blades rotate at a very high speed of 5,000 RPM that will deliver a smooth and polished cut. Despite its small size and a smaller tabletop dimension of 20 x 22-1/2 inches - it still sports a powerful 15-Amp motor that can cut through a wide variety of material of different densities fast and easily.
Again, we see the same angle versatility of -2 to 47 degrees as the more expensive Bosch 4100-09 reviewed above. We think that this model is one of the best small table saws for the money, especially considering its price to performance ratio.
- Relatively affordable when compared to other models in this review.
- Low profile and can easily fit in the trunk of a small car.
- Very versatile blade angle of -2 to 47 degrees.
- Good quality build construction. Durable and can be used for heavy-duty application.
- Blade speed is too high for working with tough material like hardwood.
Who should buy?
This model is relatively more affordable than others in this review. It is smaller, has a lower-profile but offers the same ease of use and versatility as most models here. We recommend it if you find that the specs and price of other portable table saws here are a bit excessive for you. If not, there are better models listed in this review.
#5. Makita 2705 10-Inch Portable Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (4.1 / 5)
The Makita 2705 is actually a contractor table saw that is also quite portable. Of course, being a contractor table saw, it is a much larger wing span. This model allows you to work with stock as bit as 96 x 48 inches - which is very impressive.
The beauty of this unit is that is that later be folded to a more compact size of only 32 x 36 x 15 inches. This allows it to be more portable and easily carried to the job. It makes a great Jobsite portable saw if you need the extra rip capacity.
Other than the wide material capacity, all the other features are pretty standard and similar to other portable models in this review, give or take. The riving knife can be adjusted to work a 3 distinct positions - through, non-through and dado cuts on the same plate. The dual size transparent guard allows you to see your cut as well as provide the security required when working with this power tool.
Additionally, the miter motor power is still rated at 15-Amp and the speed at 4,800 RPM. One feature that we like is the inclusion of an electric brake that immediately halts the blades. This allows you to gain time when cutting and removing your cut from the table.
Overall, this is a decent portable table saw that offers a lot of versatility - especially when working with large stock.
- Large wing span allows you to work with large sheets of stock.
- Electric brake helps you gain productivity on the job. Also, works as a security feature.
- Heavier than other portable models.
- More expensive and not delivered with a stand.
Who should buy?
Frankly, if you need a Jobsite table saw to carry back and forth, this is not the ideal model since it is a little bit on the heavy side at 65.5 lbs. However, if you need a portable table saw with a wide tabletop, and work mostly with wide sheets of stock - you absolutely need to get this model! It is the best portable table saw in terms of stock capacity.
#6. DeWalt DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (4.6 / 5)
For those looking for a good balance between price, performance, and reliability, the DeWalt DWE7491RS is a good choice. This is a decent jobsite table saw that has all the features you expect from a quality model. But above all, it sports the solid and dependable build construction of a jobsite table saw.
This Dewalt table saw has the traditional rack and pinion fence that will allow you to quickly and easily adjust, measure and cut your material. Additionally, the whole device is powered by a powerful and efficient 15-Amp motor that will not stall with a high-density material.
Moreover, this unit can do angular cuts of 3-1/8 inches at 90 degrees and 2-1/4 inches at 45 degrees which are industry standard angles in a table saw.
To further protect the user, it comes with riving knives to prevent kickbacks. As for portability, you have plenty with this unit. It comes with a rolling stand that allows you to carry this table saw easily despite its weight of 90 lbs.
- Has a 2 inches dust collection port
- Rolling stand makes it very easy to move around
- Sturdy metal roll case provides stability and shock-absorption
- Rack and pinion fence system for accuracy and ease of use
- A little expensive
Who should buy?
We recommend the DeWalt DWE7491RS to those looking for a dependable and performing table saw that can easily be carried around in the workshop. This model has decent features and is priced very competitively when compared to other models with similar features.
#7. Tacklife PTSG1A 10-inch Table Saw
Editor's Rating: (3.5 / 5)
The Tacklife PTSG1A is a small and compact portable table saw that comes at a very affordable price. It comes with all the vital features you would expect from a quality table saw.
For one, it has a metal roll cage that provides this unit with stability during a cut. The 15-Amp motor in this device is efficient and powerful. Furthermore, with its 4800 RPM blade speed and powerful motor, it will have no problem cutting through materials and produce a smooth and clean cut.
To promote accuracy, the table top is machine-engineered from cast aluminum. This table top is super flat and will last a long time. Best, the 10 inches blade can be adjusted anywhere from 0 to 45 degrees for miter cuts. Despite its small price, this unit still offers a lot of versatility.
Best of all, the table top can be extended to increase its work area by 40 x 20 inches which is more than decent for any type of work, even for professionals working with large stock.
- Affordable. Value for money
- The aluminum table top can be extended. Offers a generous 40 x 20 inches work surface
- Cord management for a clean area below the table saw
- Small 1-1/2 inches dust port. May need an adapter to connect to your dust collection system
- No speed adjustment for the miter blade
Who should buy?
If you have a small budget, get this model from DeWalt. It is affordable and will get the job done most of the time. It does not have a variable speed control but if you mostly cut the same type of material every time, you do not need this speed feature as this unit is still plenty fast and produces a clean cut in wood.
What to Look for When Buying a Portable Table Saw
Before purchasing a table saw, there are many important factors to consider. This will prevent you from making an expensive and regrettable purchase. Here are a few factors to keep an eye out:
Always go with a popular brand. You get the reassurance and guarantee that your portable table saw is built from quality material, and will be durable and long lasting.
#2. Table Saw Size
Choose a model with a reasonable size and appropriate to the material you work with the most. You do not need a 96 inches tabletop contractor saw if you mostly cut wood planks.
We cannot talk about the portable table saw without mentioning portability. The manufacturer should make it as easy as possible for you to transport this power tool to the job. This includes providing handles, making the form factor as compact as possible or using lightweight material like aluminum for the build construction. Some models are even hangable. This shows the manufacturers concerns for making the most convenient and best portable table saw for the money. If they care, you should care!
#4. Motor Power
When looking for a portable table saw, anything that can deliver above 3/4 HP is considered adequate for general purpose use. For the best bang for the buck, we recommend that you aim for the highest power you can get. However, be careful. The more powerful the motor also usually means a more expensive price. As a general rule of thumb, go with 3/4 HP as a strict minimum and 1-3/4 HP if you plan to cut hardwood or other higher density material.
#5. Blades and Tilt
Looks for models that come with carbide blades. They are tough and resistant to wear. Additionally, the blades should be easily tilted for angular cuts. If you regularly cut at odd angles, for example, 47 degrees, you must make sure your model can tilt this far.
#6. Dust Collection
You do not want to buy a portable table saw without a dust collection system. This power tool produces a lot of sawdust, and need to at least have a dust port to connect to an external dust collector or vacuum pump.
That’s a wrap! This portable table saw review comes to an end. We have listed some of the web’s most popular models, and frankly, you cannot go wrong with any one of them. Get one if you think it fits your need.
