Track Saw Reviews: 4 Best Track Saws for Woodworkers
Track saws are easy to use power tools that make cutting through material fast and hassle-free. Unlike other power tools like the circular saw or the jigsaw, a track saw is easy to set up and does not need any clamping for fast and efficient cutting. In this track saw comparisons and track saw reviews guide, we are going to explore some of the features and benefits of some of the best track saw on the market.
Table of Contents
Benefit of using a Track Saw
Many benefits come with using a track saw over other power tools for cutting material.
- Simple design
First of all, the track saw is an incredibly versatile tool. You can deploy it anywhere you want, and it does not consume a lot of space. In fact, the track saw is deceptively simple and does not look like it can accomplish a lot. However, this cannot be further from the truth, as the track saw is one of the best professional tool for cutting.
- No blade guard
While a circular saw is a good cutting power tool, many people often face problems with the blade guard of a circular saw. Indeed, this safety mechanism while being good at what it does, also limits the visibility of cutting. This is not the case when using the track saw as you always have eye on your cut line.
A track saw does not need a clamp. Most other power tools in this category need secure clamping so as to limit vibrations. You will not need one with a track saw as the large surface area sits firmly on the ground and prevents motion. Good quality track saws come with rubber grips that further ensures this firmness. Being clamp free means that you save invaluable time in setting your track saw for the job. It's also an easier power tool to operate, all in all.
- Dust management system
Everyone who works with wood day in and day out face the same situation. That is, the collection of dust on your material. Indeed, the more you cut the more dust will accumulate and prevent you from having a visible cut line. This is not a problem with the track saw as the bulky flat top of the track saw retrofits as a dust management system.
It forces sawdust not to move sideways but down ways. This means that whenever you are cutting through material using a track saw, you will always have a clean surface to work on. So, for many people, this is a very appealing benefit as you do not need an external vacuum system.
- Set and Cut
Cutting material with the track saw is the easiest possible of any power tool. You simply have to lay your track saw on a flat surface and align it. Then, start cutting away. Yes, it's that simple!
- Space saver
You can easily carry the track saw around. It does not take a lot of space. Most track saws are only a few inches wide and no more than 8 feet long. The construction of the track saw is mostly aluminum so it is also lightweight.
- Precise cuts
You can get an incredibly precise cut when using a track saw. With the help of a miter gauge that can easily be retrofitted on the track saw, you now have the possibility of having an unlimited length of cutting with extreme precision. Bear in mind though, that a custom miter gauge will cost you additionally as most track saws are not delivered with a miter gauge.

The DEWALT DWS520CK is one of the most iconic track saws on the market. Regarded as one of the best Dewalt track saw, this discreet looking track saw has a lot to offer. You will like the simplicity and performance of this power tool.

The bevel capacity of this track saw is 1 degree to 46 degrees. It can be locked to custom angles, similar to the SP6000J1 above, but unlike its counterpart, it can do less custom angles. It’s slower RPM also means that this track saw is ideal for cutting more material fast, rather than less material with more precision.
Last but not least, the Imperial scale of this unit allows you to adjust the depth of cut quickly and easily. With the click of a button, you can lock it on any depth you want. We just like the handy and practical features Dewalt threw at this track saw.
Around $600 introductory price of this Dewalt track saw might seem prohibitive. After all, it is a lot of money. But DeWalt offers a rock-solid 3-year warranty on this model. All the Dewalt track saw reviews we found on this model highly praise it for its durability and long guide rail.
If those features appeal to you, then this model will make a great fit for your workshop. Remember, track saws last for many years and you shouldn’t find yourself in a position where you will be replacing it anytime soon. So, price is a secondary factor when weighting your choice over a good model.

We like this Shop Fox track saw a lot, for many reasons. It is an entry level track saw for beginners and it does not pretend to be more than a beginners’ track saw. However, it still offers plenty for the experts on a budget out there. Indeed, this Shop Fox track saw is one of the most affordable and high performing track saws in its category.
This compact model is equipped with only a 9A motor that sends a high 5500RPM to the blades. For those who have been carefully reading this track saws review, then you can easily spot that it is the highest RPM in this review. But can its smaller motor cope with a higher RPM? It works most of the time for light and precise cuts.
Despite those minor lacunas, this model from Shop Fox is adequate for most DIY projects and woodworking jobs. Sure, it is not the most powerful unit. It also does not come with a guide rail. But unless you find yourself in a position where you have to cut a lot of materials with extreme precision for long hours every day - this unit is more than enough.
It has a fixed bevel capacity of either 0 degrees or 45 degrees, and if cutting angled-cuts is important for you, this unit will not make a good fit. It simply cannot be compared to the other models in this review, since all others are professional track saws – that also come at professional price 😉
However, the introductory price of this model is only under $200. It can be had for even less! This is a fraction of the price of all the track saws we reviewed so far. If price matters, and you are looking for a good entry-level track saw that will serve you for years, we think that this unit is one of the best bang for the buck.
As all good things come to an end, including this track saw review. We hope it helped you find a good track saw that fit your need and budget. If not, go through it one more time.
