Skil 3410-02 Table Saw Review
In general, table saws tend to be large and expensive workshop tools. In fact, many amateur and beginner woodworkers often hesitate when buying a table saw, mostly because of its high price.
However, to solve this problem, SKIL introduced the SKIL 3410-02 in 2010. It is a popular, compact, and fairly affordable table saw solution that has a rich set of features. It is a model used and recommended by many woodworking enthusiasts around the globe, and for good reason. But is this table saw really worth the money or is it all hype? To help you with your purchase decision, we have reviewed this model in great detail below.
If you want to buy a table saw, here are some reviews that I recommend for you to read such as DeWalt DWE7491RS, DeWalt DWE7480, DeWalt DW745, Bosch 4100-09, Hitachi C10FL.
Skil 3410-02 Table Saw Review
#1. Technical Features
Blade
The blade of the SKIL 3410-02 is your standard 10-inch 24T carbide tipped blade. It is tough and durable, and can easily be used for any heavy-duty cutting jobs.
However, due to the blade design and a small number of blade teeth, it can cut through hard material with exceptional ease. While it does not deliver the smoothest cut, it can cut through material very quickly and efficiently.
The user can quickly and easily lift or lower the blade, and it offers a maximum depth of cut of 3-1/2 inches at 90 degrees. This is more than generous considering that this is a compact table saw that offer the specs of a regular contractor or even cabinet table saw.
Motor & Speed
Moreover, in terms of performance, we find that it is still a decent unit for such an affordable table saw. It is equipped with a 15-Amp inductive motor that will cut anything like butter, without any power hiccups.
One thing we note about the SKIL 3410-02 is its no-load speed. It is high, at an impressive 5,000 RPM. This is much higher than its competitors like the DeWalt DW745 at a more modest 3,850 RPM no-load speed. The high speed ensures that the user gets a polished and smooth cut, regardless of material density.
In addition to the powerful motor, this compact table saw will almost always guarantee a professional finish cut that will require minimum sanding post work. Especially when retrofitted with a 40-tooth blade.
Dust Extraction
One downside to the SKIL 3410-02 is the lack of a dust extraction or even dust port. You cannot connect this unit to an external vacuum system. It is preferred to use this table saw outside or in an open workshop where it is easier to clean. This can be a problem if used for heavy-duty cutting tasks as sawdust will quickly accumulate and obstruct the cut line visibility. This is one instance where the DeWalt DW745 table saw is clearly a much superior product at the same performance.
Safety
There are a few basic security features included in this unit.
The blade guard is transparent and allows easy visibility of the blade during a cut while still protecting your hands from the moving blade.
Moreover, SKIL includes an inbuilt riving pawl with this model, which drastically help prevent kickbacks.
#2. Other Features
- Self-Aligning Fence: There is a metal T-miter fence in this model. It maneuvers easily on the side fence rails and it is quite accurate. The fence has a locking mechanism that allows the user to move and lock it in position for repetitive use quickly.
- Steel Stand: The stands are made from steel and heavy-duty. They are durable and provides a lot of stability to the table saw.
- EZ View Measurement: This system provides easy measurements when using the fence. It helps the user get more accurate measurements, as well as perform accurate cuts more quickly.
#3. Accessories
Out of the box, you get only a 24T carbide tipped blade, a steel stand, 2 blade wrenches for changing the blades, a rip fence and a miter gauge. It is still better than more expensive table saws since you get a heavy-duty stand for free as well.
#4. Price
One of the most attractive aspects of the SKIL 3410-02 remains its price. It is very well priced, and in its price range, it has almost no competitors. Sure, other table saws like the DeWalt DW745 is a little bit superior in terms of build quality and dependability but is more expensive at almost no performance or versatility difference.
All in all, despite not having a dust port, we think that this unit has an extremely reasonable price and speaks loudly to homeowners and beginners on a budget.
#5. Pros/Cons
Pros
- Affordable. Value for money.
- Small and compact. Can be stored in a small workshop space.
- This model comes with a heavy-duty steel stand. It provides excellent stability.
- Very fast blade speed of 5,000 RPM and powerful 15-Amp motor. Will cut material easily and professionally.
Cons
- No dust port or dust extraction system. Sawdust and wood debris can become a problem when used for heavy-duty cutting tasks.
Who Should Buy?
Despite being a budget table saw, the SKIL 3410-02 delivers performance and versatility that is above and beyond of what should be expected from a table saw in this price range. It has decent performance, excellent stability and will cut through any stock with ease. We recommend it to homeowners and beginner woodworkers looking for a small and compact table saw.
