DeWalt DWE7491RS Table Saw Review
#1. Technical Features
Blade
The blade of the DeWalt DWE7491RS is a 10-inch 24-tooth carbide tipped blade. It is quite efficient allowing you to cut through material with great ease, most you due to the angled design of the tooth. While the blade is quite small, it is still big enough for it to work with fairly large and thick stock like Maple wood of less than 3-inch in thickness.
One of the best things of the DWE7491RS is the generous rip capacity of 32-1/2 inches. This is more than its smaller brother DeWalt DWE7480 which contains a smaller rip capacity of only 24 inches. Additionally, the blade bevel can easily be adjusted with the angle wheel knob.
It can perform common angles of 0 – 45 degrees. One nice thing about this bevel adjustment is that it is accurate and automatically locks in position. This will allow you to perform repetitive angular cuts in the future, without the need of making new adjustments over and over again. The depth of cut is also decent, at 3-1/8 inches at 90 degrees and 2-1/4 inches at 45 degrees.
Furthermore, the built-in riving knife has an excellent design to it. It helps guide stock over the blade with great accuracy, but mostly, it helps limit kickbacks and vibrations. A good security feature. For additional blade safety, this model comes with a transparent blade guard as well.
Motor & Speed
At the heart of DeWalt DWE7491RS is a 15-Amp motor. It is the same performing motor found in the cheaper DeWalt DWE7480. This inductive motor can cut through almost any type of wood, whether you are working on softwood or hardwood with the same ease.
This unit can perform a no-load speed of 4,800 RPM, fast enough to deliver a smooth and polished finish cut. We do not see a variable speed control in the miter saw and it is a constant and linear speed. However, this may not be a big problem especially that a variable speed is not really necessary in a table saw.
All in all, both the motor and the blade speed of the DWE7491RS are performing enough for a professional cut finish. It will have no difficulty cutting through relatively hard material like hardwood.
Dust Extraction
The DWE7491RS helps you cut stock in a clean and debris-free environment. There is a 2-1/2 inches dust port at the bottom to connect to any standard dust extraction system. Instead of “blowing” air on the cut area, this table saw “sucks in” air so that even the table top remains clean during a cut.
Safety
This unit comes with a transparent blade guard to protect the user from the spinning blade. To further aid the user, the rip guard helps prevent dangerous kickbacks. Furthermore, the power switch is right at the front for easy access. It can also be conveniently locked with a key if desired.
#2. Other Features
- Rack and Pinion Fence: The fence moves along a rack and pinion tray which is easy maneuver and lock in position. You can make very accurate and fast cuts with this metal fence.
- Heavy-Duty Back Wheels: The rolling stand comes with backs wheels that are heavy-duty and allow easy transportation of this table saw. It can quickly and easily be retracted and converted to a regular table saw if not needed. Additionally, it offers excellent stability, on par with other table saws that lay flush to the ground.
- Large Rip Capacity: The 32-1/2 inches rip capacity allows the user to work with large projects like cabinet work, hardwood flooring or deck quite easily.
#3. Accessories
As with most table saw, you get a basic set of accessories. This includes a 10-inch carbide-tipped blade, a rolling stand, 1 push stick and a miter gauge for measurements.
#4. Price
The DeWalt DWE7491RS is a little bit on the expensive side. This is quite expected since it is a professional grade table saw. The best thing that distinguishes this model from other performing table saws like the excellent DeWalt DWE480 is the rolling stand. If this is important to you, then the price is reasonable. It can easily be carried around and has both the power and accuracy you need from a quality table saw.
#5. Expert Reviews
Popular Woodworking YouTube channel ToolsEditor has an excellent review of this table saw. The reviewers, Dave Frane, editor of Tools of the Trade and Jesse Wright from Finish Carpenter Architectural Molding start by giving a demonstration of the various features. They concentrate on the rolling stand since this is a big feature in this unit.
Jesse makes a test at first of the stability of the device. It passes the test and does not budge at all. He likes it and says that it is heavy-duty. He then deploys the unit and elevates the blade, commenting on the rip fence and how it helps prevent kickback. He also shows us how to remove the rip fence by pulling a special lever at the bottom side of the table saw.
He then assembles the blade guard with the built-in riving knife. During his demonstration, we can see how big the wing span of the DWE7491RS really is. It can easily accommodate large projects. Jesse then goes over the power switch button and comments on the locking mechanism, which prevents unauthorized use. He also says that it is an important safety feature as it prevents a child from powering the device.
All in all, the reviewer likes the small and compact form factor of this table saw. He also likes the solid build construction and impresses that such a small table saw has so many functions. Finally, he ends up by giving us a hands-on demonstration of this tool in action.
