Black & Decker LPP120 Cordless Pole Saw Review

#1. Technical Features

Of course, we cannot talk about a pole saw without mentioning its power. A 20 Volts lithium-ion battery powers this Black & Decker pole saw. We note the presence of a lithium ion battery instead of the older NiCAD battery as this model has a longer autonomy of up to 5X and recharges much faster. Additionally, it holds enough power for up to 100 cuts of 1-1/2 inches branches. For those who perform trimming regularly, you know that is more than enough.

Additionally, this motor is Energy Star rated which means that it has been fine-tuned to deliver maximum efficiency on the job.

Black & Decker provides you with the ability to get this model with or without a battery. This is quite practical if you already own a compatible battery as it will allow you to make a few savings on getting this model without the battery.

Guide Bar/Handle

The handle in this pole saw is a classic over-hand handle that provides a solid grip and allows you to make complicated maneuvers without the pole leaving your hand.

But it does not stop there. The handle in this pole saw is coated with a rubber material providing a soft and comfortable handling. You can go ahead and use this pole saw for an extended period without hand fatigue, and the handle does a lot giving you a comfortable hold on your device, regardless of how you use it.

Additionally, this model has an adjustable shaft length of 6.5 feet to 10 feet. Along with the 8-inch bar, it provides a maximum of 14 feet of workable reach. This max overhead reach is sufficient for most people. The chain bar is long enough to cut a maximum diameter of 6-inch comfortably. Although, note that it cannot be removed and be used as a standalone chainsaw. This is a major caveat, but we were not expecting it to provide such a high level of versatility – not at this price point.

#2. User-friendly

This pole saw is made from 3 parts that can quickly and easily be assembled or disassembled. All that you need to perform is a twist-and-lock to fit the pieces together.

Further, the pole is constructed from a lightweight hollow fiberglass material that provides both the durability and solidity required when maneuvering this unit.

Adjusting the pole shaft length is extremely easy. It is that same principle as opening or closing an umbrella. That's how easy it is to adjust the length of this pole saw.

Additionally, when this cordless pole saw is out of charge, you can quickly and easily recharge it with the fast charger. It should take no more than an hour to get a full charge which is one of the main advantages of having a power tool using lithium-ion technology.

Moreover, the best advantage of this pole saw remains its maneuverability. Indeed, it is a cordless model with no wires that can get in the way. This makes it extremely maneuverable especially when working in tight spaces or awkward positions. Very practical!

#3. Safety

The chain bar has been designed in a way to prevent kickback. This is an excellent security feature in this Black & Decker pole saw that ensures that even beginners can safely use this device without hurting themselves.

Additionally, the power switch is large and immediately locks the chain when you remove your finger on the button. Another great security feature right there.

#4. Other Features

Energy Star Rated Charger: Over the years, we have started giving preference to power tools that are Energy Star rated. This simply means that this pole saw has passed the standard where it has demonstrated that it is very energy efficient when recharging. This translates to a lower electricity bill, especially if you need to recharge often.

#5. Price

The price range of this Black & Decker pole saw is excellent. It is the “sweet spot” for a portable pole saw and best, it has a lot of features that makes this model, even more, value for money. If you are looking for a cordless pole saw, it is hard to beat the price of the Black & Decker LPP120.

#6. Pros/Cons

  • The shaft can be extended quickly and easily to provide a maximum overhead reach of 14 feet.
  • Cordless pole saw. Very maneuverable with no wires to get in the way.
  • Can make 100 cuts on 1-1/2 inches branches on a full battery charge.
  • The lithium-ion battery can be fully recharged in less than an hour.
  • Lightweight at only 6.3 lbs. Very maneuverable and will limit and fatigue when used for an extended period

  • Chain bar cannot be removed and used as a chainsaw. Not enough power for heavy duty purposes or be used for cutting tough nodes and knots.

#7. Who Should Buy?

If you are looking for a cordless pole saw, you should seriously consider this Black & Decker pole saw. This model is a true jewel in disguise. And best of all, it comes at a price that will not break the bank, and it also has a solid build so it will last you a long time. It is a reliable model that can be used in the long term and has sufficient power to make it an extremely versatile and powerful pole saw despite being only cordless. We recommend this model to homeowners and professionals who need a lot of maneuverability when working with a pole saw.
