1. Motor

Both models are corded to deliver the power necessary when sanding. When compared regarding sheer raw power, the DeWalt wins hands down thanks to its beefier 3.0 Amps motor. The Bosch ROS20VSK still sports a decent 2.5 Amps motor that is suitable for general purpose sanding. The more robust motor in the DeWalt translate to more heavy-duty sanding on harder materials, requiring less passes thus boosting productivity.

Both models are rated at 120V making them only suited for the North American market.

2. Speed

When it comes to speed, there are clear differences between the two models.

The Bosch ROS20VSK has a variable speed control that allows the user to adjust the speed from 7,500 OPM to 12,000 OPM. It is more versatile. The sanding process is also more customizable to ones liking.

On the other hand, the DeWalt D26451K has a fixed no-load OPM of 12,000. This is the best speed for leaving a professional smooth sanding finish on your material. The more performing motor in this model also ensures that it can tackle more heavy-duty sanding delivering a uniform sanding.

Despite all this, we have to give this one to the Bosch. The variable speed control makes this orbital sander more versatile and it still manages the same maximum no-load speed as the DeWalt despite its more modest motor.

3. Finishing Quality

It is hard to distinguish the finishing quality between those two models mostly because it is a subjective criterion.

The DeWalt has a fixed speed that will leave a standard and smooth finish throughout. The Bosch has a more “customizable” finishing quality thanks to its variable speed control.

When both models are set to the maximum speed, the DeWalt should deliver a faster sanding finish. This is due to its more powerful motor that eats through material more quickly and requires fewer passes.

With that in mind, both models employ mechanisms that prevent gouging, dips, and swirls. They start slow and brake when leaving the material surface. It is safer to use as it prevents the sanding pad from moving out of control.

4. User Friendliness

Considering that those two random orbital sanders could potentially be used for long hours, user-friendliness and ergonomics should be significant as comparison criteria.

  • Weight: The weight of the Bosch, at 3.5 lbs, compared to 3.4 lbs for the DeWalt, weight of both models are quite comparable
  • Grip: The better ergonomic form factor and rubberized palm area handle of the Bosch also boost comfort, preventing hand fatigue and sweaty hand slipping. The Dewalt does have an anti-slip top, but it is still made from a textured plastic. Not the best of options in our opinion.
  • Vibration: The adjustable speed control and lower power of the Bosch make it send less vibration to the hand. The rubber material at the handle should also help absorb shock making it more comfortable to the user.
  • Ease of Use: The DeWalt is equipped with a counterbalance fan that helps improve handling and makes it very easy to sand in a professional manner, even for beginners. The Bosch has a variable speed control, and very ergonomic. Both models are straightforward and easy to use having their particular pros.

5. Dust Collection

Having a clean work area is important, especially while sanding. Both models come equipped with a dust collection system.

Rightly so, the dust compartment area is where those two models differ considerably.

The Bosch has a twist-and-lock dust canister while the DeWalt uses a fiber cloth. Both do a good job trapping minute sawdust particles as small as 1/2 micron.

Those solutions might be limited for those who have a lot of sanding to perform, as the dust collectors are too small for heavy-duty work. However, they can both be connected to an external vacuum system with the outfitted 1-1/4 inches and 1-1/2 inches hose connectors.

6. Price

Both models offer price at around $90. They are both delivered as a “kit”, which means you will be getting attachments like sanding pads and a carry case (or bag ) with the purchase.

Conclusion

The Bosch ROS20VSK and the DeWalt D26451K are two different power tools than perform the same task.

If you need the variable speed control and excellent ergonomic of the Bosch; and planning to sand for long hours. The DeWalt has a fixed speed, but it is a more performing tool that can sand faster on material in less time.
