Husqvarna 240 Review

#1. Technical Features

Power

At the heart of the Husqvarna 240 chainsaw, lies a fairly modest motor. It is rated at 2 HP with a displacement of 38.2 cc. Apparently, this chainsaw is not meant for heavy-duty applications. However, for lightweight use and cutting softwood, it is powerful enough to deliver a smooth experience. Additionally, when used with the right material, you will not need to apply extra force and a gentle push will be sufficient for a clean cut.

However, reviewers often tend to exaggerate on the power of a chainsaw. Bearing in mind that you do not need the most powerful chainsaw to get the job done. In fact, what is the most important is that you understand your need and the type of material that you will use the chainsaw on. Once you know all those factors, the power of a chainsaw easily becomes secondary because most of the time, even the lowest entry-level chainsaws from premium brands lack Husqvarna will be more than enough. Overkill, even!

Guide Bar

The guide bar is another very important feature of a chainsaw. The guide bar is very small in this model at only 16-inch. Effectively, this will allow you to cut a maximum of 32-inch of material. While this is not the biggest size we have seen in a chainsaw, we feel that it is still adequate for average use. This includes woodworking, cutting logs as well as other general-purpose cutting using a chainsaw.

Additionally, the chains on the Husqvarna 240 can quickly and easily be removed in a matter of minutes. Equally easy to use is the chain tensioning system. Further, the guide bars are very solidly constructed and will not bend or break under heavy load. It is strong enough to support the 9000 RPM maximum speed of the chain, any day any time. You can also change the guide bar length to any chain bar model you want as long as it is compatible. This model accepts a maximum of 16-inch and a minimum of 13-inch guide bar.

#2. User-Friendly

The Husqvarna 240 is equipped with X-Torq technology, as with all Husqvarna chainsaws. This technology is very practical because it makes the motor extremely fuel efficient and reduces the production of toxic fumes. But it also has another main advantage. It allows the motor to start almost immediately when yanked. Most chainsaw models does require a few yanks to get the motor going. Not with the Husqvarna 240 as you will need no more than two yanks to start the engine. Additionally, the X-Torq technology is backed by a stop control that reduces the risk of oil flooding the engine. This dual combination of technologies makes the Husqvarna 240 start and operate with an exceptional efficiency.

Further, another technology developed by Husqvarna is present in this model. It is called LowVib. As you may have guessed, this is a system made to reduce vibration levels. With lesser vibrations, you will feel less fatigue as the chainsaw is much more comfortable to hold in the hand. Husqvarna achieves this by separating the motor that produces the vibrations from the handle part.

#3. Safety

Husqvarna 240 Chainsaw

We also cannot talk about the chainsaw without mentioning safety. The chain bar is designed specifically to reduce kickback. Additionally, it comes with a thick front guard that protects the user’s hand during a kickback. This is a very important security feature that we see is very well implemented in the Husqvarna 240.

#4. Other features

Air Injection: This model uses physics to its advantage. It contains a centrifugal air cleaning system that filters out larger debris’ before they can even reach the air filters inside the chainsaw. This drastically improves the chainsaw’s life as well as allows the motor to generate more performance per fuel cost.

#5. Price

Price is the main advantage of the Husqvarna chainsaw 240. After all, this is the most entry-level chainsaw in the Husqvarna chainsaw line. You cannot expect it to be too expensive. However, bear in mind that this is still a premium grade chainsaw so it will come at a steep price when compared to lesser brands. You always get what you pay for. Personally, we think that this Husqvarna chainsaw is a very competitively priced, especially taking into account what it can offer and its solid build construction. For lightweight use, it is definitely a bigger bargaining than the Husqvarna 435.

#6. Expert Review

The Husqvarna 240 is a popular chainsaw, so many experts are interested in this model. A good Husqvarna 240 review can be found on YouTube channel A-1 Repairs Inc. The reviewer, Jim, goes into great details about this chainsaw providing us with a hands-on experience of what working with this chainsaw feels like. He starts by covering the specs of this chainsaw and then explains the benefits of each and every feature. Jim goes on to show us how to remove and assemble the 16-inch bar mount in this model. Very easy! He then explains how Husqvarna was able to achieve a more comfortable handling with fewer vibrations using this model. You can watch his video below:

#7. Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Cheaper than other Husqvarna chainsaws.
  • Low vibrations and more comfortable handling over a longer period.
  • Large guide bar feels comfortable in the hand.
  • Lightweight at only 10.3 lbs. Can be used to work in awkward positions.
  • X-Torq delivers more motor efficiency and fewer toxic fumes.
  • Air injection system helps extend the life of the air filters and motor.

Cons

  • Motor is not the most powerful with a maximum of 2 HP. Only ideal for lightweight use or softwood cutting.

#8. Who Should Buy?

The Husqvarna 240 is a relatively affordable chainsaw intended for beginners or semi-professionals. Of course, it can be used for more heavy-duty applications by woodcutting experts, but it was not meant for this intention. Rather, it speaks loudly to beginners or those who do not have a lot of woodcutting to perform. In any case, it gets the job done reasonably well as long as it is used on material that is no more than 32-inch in diameter. Additionally, it has very user-friendly features like inertia control that makes cutting intuitive, easy and safe. All in all, we think that this is a great beginner chainsaw that is both durable and performing for lightweight applications.
