Bosch JS470EB Jigsaw Review

#1. Technical Features

Power

The power is one of the major attractions of this Bosch jigsaw. Indeed, it has one of the most powerful inductive motors we know of in an electric jigsaw. It is beefy and rated at 7-Amp, which should be enough to cut right through any type of material whether it is tough or soft. It can also comfortably be used for cutting thin sheets of metal, no problem.

Additionally, it has a very decent cutting capacity of 5-7/8 inches on softwood, 0.875 inch on aluminum and 0.375 inch for mild steel sheets. All in all, this is more than enough for the average user who buys commercial materials. It is nice to see a fairly generous cutting capacity as now you can stack your material one on top the other to gain speed and productivity when cutting a lot of stock. Therefore, we can easily recommend this product as a heavy-duty jigsaw. The powerful motor should definitely keep up with cutting multiple sheets of material at the same time. It can even cut different sheets of metal, as long as you do not exceed the rated cutting capacity.

Speed

When using a jigsaw, speed plays a crucial part as it allows you to control your cut. This Bosch jigsaw has a variable no-load speed of 500 – 3,100 SPM. At this speed, especially noting the lowest 500 SPM speed, it can cut through high-density material very easily.

Additionally, the Bosch JS470EB has an electric circuitry called “Constant Response” that ensures that the blades at a steady flow of torque from the motor which prevents it from stalling. This is a unique feature that you usually only tend to see him more premium jigsaws. Clearly, this model is one of the higher end jigsaws on the market. At least, based on specs and features alone.

Of course, the variable speed control works along with the constant response circuitry that provides you with even more versatility. Changing speed is also very easy on this device and can be used using the speed lever located to the side. This lever can be easily reached with your finger without having you to lift your hand from the device. Additionally, we recommend that you use your thumb to operate the speed lever as it is designed to be used this way.

Dust collection

There is a very handy dust blower in this Bosch jigsaw that helps keep your cut line clean from sawdust and other debris. It is not overpowering, but just the right amount of air that will not spread shoulders all over the place. It is nicely implemented in this jigsaw.

Blade

This Bosch jigsaw only works with T-shank blades. This type of jigsaw blade is known for its superior grip and accuracy on the job. This blade type is also very popular and available in almost all hardware stores. You will have no problem finding this model in your local shop, or even online for dirt cheap.

#2. User-friendly

One of the best things we like about the Bosch JS470EB is that it is a barrel grip jigsaw which is reputed for its superior ergonomics and handling. Indeed, your hands are much closer to the material which provides you much more control over your cut than other top handle jigsaws.

Further, all levers are reachable with your finger and adjustments can be made without having you to lift your hand. This Bosch jigsaw employs a very user-friendly design which permits you to save a lot of time on the job. This become even truer when you have to perform a lot of cuts using this jigsaw.

Lastly, the handling is exceptionally comfortable since Bosch coated both the top nose and the handle with a very soft and comfortable rubberized material. Along with the barrel grip design of this jigsaw, it is an extremely comfortable and pleasurable jigsaw to hold.

#3. Other Feature

Bevel Cuts: You will need to use a provided wrench for angle cuts. This model can perform the traditional 45-degree cuts without any problem. It does not have bevel detents or presets, which is one of its main disadvantages. However, if you do not perform a lot of angular cuts using a jigsaw, this will not be a big problem.

Plastic Overshoe: Moreover, Bosch provides a clear plastic overshoe that allows you to see both your cut line and cut area more easily. You equally get an anti-splinter insert that makes cutting cleaner and reduces the risk of wood chippings flying.

#4. Accessories

When you purchase the Bosch JS470EB, you get a set of accessories which includes:

  • Anti-Splinter Insert
  • Plastic overshoe
  • Bevel Wrench
  • A Bosch carry case

You will need to own a T-shank blade already to operate this jigsaw as it is not provided with this purchase. Of course, we recommend that you buy a few spare blades which will further add to the versatility of this jigsaw.

#5. Price

This Bosch jigsaw is not meant for everyone. And it has a price tag to speak for itself. It is fairly expensive for jigsaw, but let us not forget that this is a semi-professional to professional jigsaw intended for a particular market segment. When compared to other professional jigsaw saws like the Bosch JS572EK, it is much more competitively priced with almost the same performance. Of course, it is much superior to midrange jigsaws like the Bosch JS365. It handles itself better in the hand and can cut through tough material much more easily due to its higher rated motor. Bottom line, we think that this Bosch jigsaw is very reasonably priced and offers a lot of value for money.

#6. Expert Review

Many professionals use the Bosch JS470EB. Therefore, a few of them took the time to review this Bosch jigsaw. Watch the YouTube video of thintz12 who made a comprehensive and detailed review of this jigsaw. He starts with unboxing the product. Then continues to give us a hands-on experience on how he uses this jigsaw with a demonstration. He also does not forget to limelight the best features in this power tool. All in all, it should give you an excellent idea if this Bosch jigsaw is a good fit for your need or not. You can watch the video embedded below:

#7. Pros/ Cons

  • Powerful and heavy-duty motor. Will not stall when used on tough materials

  • 4 orbital setting for blade aggressiveness adjustment

#8. Who Should Buy Bosch JS470EB ?

As we have seen, the Bosch JS470EB is a high performance and heavy-duty jigsaw. Due to its steeper price, we recommend this Bosch jigsaw to semi-professionals and professionals who work every day with wood rather than beginners. This Bosch jigsaw will help you become more productive on the job. There is nothing that can stand in its way, and it will not stall when used on metal or other high-density materials. It also has a nice ergonomic handling which will have limited fatigue. You can use this jigsaw for long hours with no worry as it is a heavy-duty device that was engineered to take a beating.

Bosch JS470E vs. Bosch JS470EB

Since those two Bosch jigsaws are fairly similar in name, we thought that it would be helpful to make a small overview that differentiates them apart. Hopefully, it will help you choose the best Bosch jigsaw for your need.

The Bosch JS470E has a more traditional look for a jigsaw. Unlike the low profile of the Bosch JS470EB, this model has a higher profile and is a top-handle jigsaw, bringing your hand farther away from the material. This has the disadvantage of providing you with less control, but it is more comfortable to work with, especially on heavy-duty applications.

Some carpenters prefer working with a top handle jigsaw rather than the barrel-grip design of the Bosch JS470EB. In any case, this is purely based on preference and work habit rather than specs. Otherwise, those two Bosch jigsaws are identical concerning specs and technical sheet. They have the same no-load speed, same orbital setting and even use the same T-Shank blade.
